I tend to agree, because of the US Military involvement in this.
50's through 60's set the stage for this, most likely the incorporation of it because they knew there would be an influx of babyboomers.
So whatever weapons used in WWII had it's effect on us. Then the generation new diseases, never recorded would show up, as they have.
I so agree with you on this.
Dr. Spencer put it well:
"In an interview with these authors, Dr. Spencer said, “I regard Morgellons disorder as a hybrid bio-nano-machine terror weapon. Establishment medicine and the government, which is now a fraudulent foreign owned corporation, go to great lengths to protect Morgellons from investigation of any sort. Morgellons is not one thing but is actually a system of multiple attack vectors that damage the body in numerous ways and carry various DNA and RNA strands. It is made in laboratories by talented men and women who have lost their souls and adhere to satanic principles."...........

I believe they were messing with Ergot as well. Remember the ricin business with the castor oil bean?
Years ago they used Ergot as one of the first bioweapons. Way back......
then Harvard professor found LSD. ............. Ergot raises it's ugly head, again!
=================The last paragraph....................
"Serratia marcescens over San Francisco, in 1950. In 1966, the U.S. conducted a test of vulnerability to covert bioterrorism by releasing Bacillus subtilis, another harmless organism, into the subway system of New York City. Results showed that the entire subway system could be infected by release in only one station due spread by the trains. 1969, President Nixon stopped all offensive biological and toxin weapon research and production by executive order, after which, all stockpiles of biological agents and munitions from the U.S. program were destroyed. Presently, the U.S. continues a bioweapons medical defensive program, which began in 1953, at USAMRIID in Ft. Detrick, Maryland.
In 1972, the United States and many other countries signed the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on Their Destruction, commonly called the Biological Weapons Convention. This treaty prohibits the stockpiling of biological agents for offensive military purposes, and also forbids research into offensive use of biological agents.
Although the former Soviet Union was a signatory to the Biological Weapons Convention, their development of biological weapons only intensified after the accord and continued with full steam into the 1990s. From 1975-1983, Soviet-backed forces in Laos, Cambodia, and Afghanistan allegedly used tricothecene mycotoxins (T-2 toxins) in what was called "Yellow Rain." After being exposed, people and animals became disoriented and ill, and a small percentage of those stricken died. The use of T-2 toxins has been denied and the presence of the yellow spots was reported as being caused by deficating bees.
In late April of 1979, an outbreak of pulmonary anthrax occurred in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) in the former Soviet Union. While, originally, the outbreak was described as being due to ingestion of infected meat, it was later discovered that the cause was from an accidental release of anthrax in aerosol form from the Soviet Military Compound 19, a Soviet bioweapons facility. Residents living downwind from this compound developed high fever and difficulty breathing, and a large number died. The final death toll was estimated at the time to be between 200 and 1,000. The death toll in animals living in the area was even greater. During the 1980s, more than 60,000 people were engaged in research, testing, production, and equipment design for the Soviet bioweapons program. One facility, Building 15 at Koltsovo, was capable of manufacturing between eighty and one hundred tons of smallpox virus a year. In the city of Kirov, the Soviets maintained an inventory of twenty tons of plague in their arsenals. And, by 1987, the combined production capacity of their anthrax lines throughout the country was nearly 5,000 tons a year.
Iraq, also a signatory of the Bioweapons Convention of 1972, admitted in 1991, that they had conducted research into the offensive use of Bacillus anthracis, botulinum toxins, and Clostridium perfringens (presumably one of its toxins). It was further discovered that they had also worked on development of aflatoxins, wheat cover smut, and ricin. Biological agents were tested in various delivery systems, including rockets, aerial bombs, and spray tanks. In December 1990, the Iraqis filled 100 bombs with botulinum toxin, 50 with anthrax, and 16 with aflatoxin. In addition, 13 SCUD warheads were filled with botulinum toxin, 10 with anthrax, and 2 with aflatoxin. These weapons were deployed in January 1991 to four locations. In all, Iraq produced 19,000 liters of concentrated botulinum toxin, 8,500 liters of concentrated anthrax, and 2,200 liters of aflatoxin.
and this applies to what Spencer was saying..........
===== "In Chicago, in 1972, members of the right-wing group Order of the Rising Sun, who were dedicated to creating "a new master race" were found in possession of 30 to 40 kilograms of typhoid bacteria cultures that were to be used to contaminate the water supplies of several mid-western cities. In 1975, the Symbionese Liberation Army was found in possession of technical manuals on how to produce bioweapons."................
Interesting that Iraq had these in 1991, given to them by US?......all part of the plan......
"These agents had been used to fill a wide range of munitions: . . . from tactical weapons (e.g. 122 mm rockets and artillery shells), to strategic weapons (e.g. aerial bombs and Al Hussein warheads filled with anthrax, botulinum toxin and aflatoxin) and “economic” weapons, e.g. wheat cover smut . . . [my emphases]"...............
My emphasis is center on that wheat cover smut,........is same as ergot.
Aflatoxin..........also in the putida, that Roberta Louise found in New Zeeland.
Wonder if this is in the T2 toxins............
============== T-2 Toxin: essential data
"Site of Action T-2 and most of the other trichothecene mycotoxins considered for use as weapons act by inhibiting protein synthesis. They do this by reacting with components of the ribosomes: the structure within the cell where proteins are made. The specific site of action of T-2, which is a reaction with a critical site on the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is known.
Protein synthesis is an essential function in all tissues, but tissues where cells are actively and rapidly growing and dividing are very susceptible to the toxins. Susceptible tissues therefore include:
the lining of the digestive tract, the wear and tear of the digestive process is constantly being repaired; bone marrow, the site of the continuous formation of new red and white blood cells; the lymph nodes, a key site in the immune system; the spleen, also a vital component of the immune system the liver, metabolically the most active tissue of the body.
Tissues like the brain and muscle are less severely affected. ".............
THIS TELLS ME THAT ERGOT IS USED, because it severely effects muscles, and muscle wasting, (muscle dystophy) was mentioned in Sir Thomas Browne's "Letter To A Friend" about the folks in Lanquedoc in 1500's and Ergot poisoning was geo specific.......so they knew it was contagious,,,,,\
found a ancient writing on this........sure enough, this effects muscles, brain, gi tract, as explained above.
.......................... "Agent Properties
Trichothecenes are different from most other potential weapons toxins because they can act through the skin. The possibility of an attack has the advantage to the user of forcing the defender into protective clothing. Trichothecenes are actually very effective blister agents. The minimal dose of T-2 toxin required to produce skin injury is about 400-fold lower than it is for mustard. Blistering and eye damage are likely well below exposure to a lethal dose. Inhalation toxicity is comparable to that of mustard or Lewisite.
These toxins are relatively easy to manufacture. The producer organisms are robust and can be grown in large fermentation vessels. A terrorist may be able to make a crude trichothecene preparation by practicing poor grain husbandry. The Fusarium species that make trichothecenes grow on staple cereals such as wheat and barley. Aflatoxin-producing fungi prefer oil-rich seed such as maize (Zea mays, Indian corn or corn in the US). Outbreaks of alimentary toxic aleukia (ATA) that killed thousands in an already devastated post-World War II Soviet Union had their origins in grains left over winter in the fields under conditions ideal for trichothecene synthesis. These grains were scant gleanings that would have been left for the birds in better days.
The toxins would most likely be spread as an aerosol with the yellow rain used in Indo-China being described as a sticky yellow liquid. The fungi themselves could be used as an economic weapon against well-regulated agricultures, such as those of North America and Europe where the appearance of the disease on any significant scale could trigger stringent responses including destruction of crops. A major diplomatic and political scandal is erupting that could have significant import for French-American relations. It involves new research into the mysterious outbreak of "mass insanity" in a village in southern France that affected some 500 people and resulted in five deaths.
According to reliable US sources, the US State Department Bureau of Intelligence and Research has been given a confidential inquiry from the office of Erard Corbin de Mangoux, head of the French intelligence agency DSGE (Directorate General for External Security). According to the report the inquiry regards a recently-published account of U.S. government complicity in a mysterious 1951 incident of mass insanity in France in the village of Pont-Saint-Esprit in southern France.
The strange outbreak severely affected nearly five hundred people, causing the deaths of at least five, two by suicide. For nearly 60 years the Pont-St.-Esprit incident has been attributed either to ergot poisoning, meaning that villagers consumed bread infected with a psychedelic mold or to organic mercury poisoning.

If you haven't seen the new Walt Disney Pictures produced movie Race to Witch Mountain yet, then you need to, at least the first three minutes of it.
The movie is a re-imagining of the 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain and stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Carla Gugino and was released on 3/13/09. This resurrection of one of Disney's time-honored franchises tells the story of two children (AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig) with psychic abilities whose search for their origins gets them caught up in an adventure with a cab driver (Johnson) and a UFO specialist (Gugino). Johnson's role seems to be semiotically linked to Horus and President Obama (recently playing the Commander-in-Chief in the NBC variety show SNL as the character RockObama) playing the protector of the children, named Sara and Seth, resonating strongly with Egyptian mythology. In addition, Gugino seems to be carving out a synchronized existence, as she appeared earlier this month in the symbolically rich Watchmen playing the dual roles of Sally Jupiter/Silk Spectre.
Now, the first three minutes of the film is layered with the rich history of ufology (click on pictures for a preview). If you didn't know better, you would think that you were watching a History Channel special on UFOs or about get an indepth televised version of disclosure. The film starts off with the masonic logo of Walt Disney, and transitions to scenes and newspaper clippings revolving around the Roswell UFO incident and the recovery of materials near Roswell, New Mexico on July 7 1947 to speeches featuring former Presidents Reagan and Clinton talking about aliens. This opening sequence features clips, pictures and videos that have been the subject of intense speculation, passionate debate, rumor and questioning; seemlessly put together to generate the view that there is sufficient and consistent evidence of an extraterrestrial presence on Planet Earth. Absolutely Amazing. I was stunned. There was even one moment where noted ufologist Whitley Strieber had a cameo. Strieber is known for his non-fiction accounts of his own perceived experiences with non-human entities with novels like The Wolfen, The Hunger, Communion and The Coming Global Superstorm with Art Bell, the inspiration for the blockbuster film about sudden climate change, The Day After Tomorrow. The question is, what is the true purpose for these symbolisms from Hollywood? What are we being prepared for? What are we being prepared to accept?
Now, if Watchmen or Race to Witch Mountain didn't illustrate clearly enough that at least there is something in the cooking, then Knowing should. To me it did. We have looked at the symbolism from the trailer of that movie in a previous post entitled There is an ORDER to our DEEPEST FEARS and I will elaborate more anon, however I must take a quick look at the final scenes. The movie starring Nicolas Cage (another symbolic figure from the symbolism factory), is based on a story regarding a teacher who opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son's elementary school; in it are some chilling predictions, some that have already occurred and others that are about to, that lead him to believe his family plays a role in the events that are about to unfold. In the trailers for Knowing, there is no hint of an alien influence. But in the film, the aliens originally appear to be evil, but are later found out to be good or perhaps benevolent. They separate the wheat from the chaff in a rapturous "wheel within a wheel" scene by only taking those that have the capacity for mental telepathy and spiritual development.
One of the things that I am beginning to notice is that there seems to be more information coming out about UFOs and Aliens, we recently saw the release of the UFO secret files by the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense and they are starting to reveal that aliens are basically the same as humans and will appear to save mankind from total destruction.
Illustrated richly in the Keanu Reeves (The One, Neo)' 2008 flick The Day the Earth Stood Still. These themes of the return of the enlightened ones and global catastrophic destruction, what are they for? Are we being programmed to accept a coming reality? Is this part of a Project Bluebeam scenario? Does this formulate the essence of Lynn Marzulli's theory of the Great Deception?

The ergot diseases of grasses, caused by members of the genus Claviceps, have had a severe impact on human history and agriculture, causing devastating epidemics. However, ergot alkaloids, the toxic components of Claviceps sclerotia, have been used intensively (and misused) as pharmaceutical drugs, and efficient biotechnological processes have been developed for their in vitro production. Molecular genetics has provided detailed insight into the genetic basis of ergot alkaloid biosynthesis and opened up perspectives for the design of new alkaloids and the improvement of production strains; it has also revealed the refined infection strategy of this biotrophic pathogen, opening up the way for better control. Nevertheless, Claviceps remains an important pathogen worldwide, and a source for potential new drugs for central nervous system diseases.

No. 1037: RYE ERGOT AND WITCHES
by John H. Lienhard
Click here for audio of Episode 1037.
Today we ask: Is it from God? Is it from the Devil? Or is it from the bread we eat? The University of Houston's College of Engineering presents this series about the machines that make our civilization run, and the people whose ingenuity created them.
In 1976 Linnda Caporael offered the first evidence that the Salem witch trials followed an outbreak of rye ergot. Ergot is a fungus blight that forms hallucinogenic drugs in bread. Its victims can appear bewitched when they're actually stoned.
Ergot thrives in a cold winter followed by a wet spring. The victims of ergot might suffer paranoia and hallucinations, twitches and spasms, cardiovascular trouble, and stillborn children. Ergot also seriously weakens the immune system.
Now Mary Matossian tells a story about rye ergot that reaches far beyond Salem. She studies seven centuries of demographics, weather, literature, and crop records from Europe and America.
Down through history, Matossian argues, drops in population have followed diets heavy in rye bread and weather that favors ergot. During the huge depopulation in the early years of the Black Death, right after 1347, conditions were ideal for ergot.
Many symptoms of ergot poisoning and the plague are similar. They probably coexisted. The worst plague damage occurred where ergot suppressed the human immune system and made people vulnerable. Records of plague deaths show huge regional variations. The plague probably followed pockets of rye ergot.
And what about witch hunts? The symptoms of bewitchment are consistent, but the way those symptoms were received was not. Crazy behavior was commonplace in the medieval plague years. The mad "Dance of Death" is a theme shot through medieval iconography. The spasms suffered by ergot victims were called St. Vitus Dance. Do you remember Ingmar Bergman's wonderful movie about the plague, The Seventh Seal? It began and ended with the figure of death leading the doomed in an eerie dance across a hilltop.
Then, in the 1500s and 1600s, the symptoms of ergot were blamed on witches -- all over Europe, and finally in Massachusetts. Witch hunts hardly occurred where people didn't eat rye.
In the 1740s, the so called Age of Rationalism, ergot symptoms became a mark of holy, not demonic, possession. Visions, trances, and spasms were read as religious ecstasy. It was a period of religious revival that historians call the Great Awakening.
And we're left to wonder just how we cope with diseases we don't understand, today. I read our kinship with those old ergot sufferers in something Kipling wrote:
I have eaten your bread and salt. I have drunk your water and wine. The deaths ye died I have watched beside And the lives ye led -- were mine.
I'm John Lienhard at the University of Houston, where we're interested in the way inventive minds work.

Gall \Gall\ (g[add]l), n. [F. galle, noix de galle, fr. L. galla.]
(Zool.) An excrescence of any form produced on any part of a plant by insects or their larvae. They are most commonly caused by small Hymenoptera and Diptera which puncture the bark and lay their eggs in the wounds. The larvae live within the galls. Some galls are due to aphids, mites, etc. See Gallnut. [1913 Webster]
Note: The galls, or gallnuts, of commerce are produced by insects of the genus Cynips, chiefly on an oak (Quercus infectoria syn. Quercus Lusitanica) of Western Asia and Southern Europe. They contain much tannin, and are used in the manufacture of that article and for making ink and a black dye, as well as in medicine. [1913 Webster]
Gall insect (Zool.), any insect that produces galls.
Gall midge (Zool.), any small dipterous insect that produces galls.
Gall oak, the oak (Quercus infectoria) which yields the galls of commerce.

pinocytosis an amoeba showing pinocytosis An amoeba showing pinocytosis The process by which a cell takes in extracellular fluid by the inv spottion of the cell membrane. Rather than entering and passing through the cell membrane as individual molecules, a droplet becomes bound to the membrane. A pocket then forms and pinches off to form a vesicle, which subsequently ruptures, releasing its contents into the cytosol. Pinocytosis ("cell drinking") is a form of endocytosis.

The Cosmic Serpent is a great personal adventure story, a fascinating study of anthropology and ethnopharmacology, and, most important, a truly revolutionary look at how knowledge and consciousness may come into being. For ten years, Jeremy Narby explored Amazonian rain forests, the libraries of Europe, and some of the world's most arcane scientific journals, following strange clues, unsuppressible intuitions, and extraordinary coincidences. He collected evidence and researched the seemingly impossible possibility that specific knowledge might somehow be transferred through internal linkDNA, the genetic internal linkinformation at the heart of each cell of all living beings, to a drug-prepared consciousness. The beginning of Narby's explorations lay with the internal linkPeruvian Indians, who claim that their knowledge of chemical interactions-now scientifically confirmed-has its origins in plant-induced hallucinations and that during these experiences they gain information that could not be acquired by methods of trial and error. Narby demonstrates that indigenous and ancient peoples have known for millennia-and even have drawn-the internal linkdouble helix structure, something conventional science discovered only in 1953. He also suggests that DNA, and the life it codes for at the cellular level, are "minded." In a first-person narrative of scientific discovery that opens new perspectives on biology, the knowledge of indigenous peoples, anthropology, and the limits of rationalism, _The Cosmic Serpent_ reveals how startlingly different the world around us appears when we open our minds to it.
They do mention a device that was to be developed and used............
"It is generally reported to be a successor to the MKDELTA project and to have focused on biological projects including biological warfare agents—specifically, to store materials that could either incapacitate or kill a test subject and to develop devices for the diffusion of such materials Estabrooks, G.H. New York: Bantam, 1989 (paperback 1990). Weinstein, H. Psychiatry and the CIA: Victims of Mind Control. Washington, DC: American Psychiatric Press, 1990. . During the first twenty years of its establishment, the CIA engaged in various projects designed to increase U.S. biological and chemical warfare capabilities. Project MKNAOMI was initiated to provide the CIA with a covert support base to meet its top-secret operational requirements. The purpose was to establish a robust arsenal within the CIA's Technical Services Division (TSD) and of which was to consist of various lethal and incapacitating materials. This would enable the TSD to serve as a highly maintained center for the circulation of biological and chemical materials. Surveillance, testing, upgrading, and the evaluation of special materials and items were also provided by MKNAOMI so as to ensure that no defects and unwanted contingencies emerged during operational conditions. For these purposes the U.S. Army's Special Operations Command (SOC) was assigned to assist the CIA in the development, testing, and maintenance procedures for the biological agents and delivery systems (1952). Both the CIA and SOC also modified guns that fired special darts coated with biological agents and various poisonous pills. The darts would serve to incapacitate guard dogs, infiltrate the area that the dogs were guarding, and then awaken the dogs upon exiting the facility. In addition, the SOC was also designated to research the potentials for using biological agents against other animals and crops. A 1967 CIA memo which was uncovered by the Church Committee was confirmed to give evidence of at least three covert techniques for attacking and poisoning crops that have been examined under field conditions. .......
Project MKOFTEN Project MKOFTEN was a covert Department of Defense program developed in conjunction with the CIA. A partner program to MKSEARCH, the goal of MKOFTEN was to "test the behavioral and toxicological effects of certain drugs on animals and humans"
According to author Gordon Thomas' 2007 book, Secrets and Lies, pages 295-299, the CIA's Operation Often was also initiated by the chief of the CIA's Technical Services Branch, Dr. Sidney Gottlieb,to "explore the world of black magic" and "harness the forces of darkness and challenge the concept that the inner reaches of the mind are beyond reach". As part of Operation Often, Dr. Gottlieb and other CIA employees visited with and recruited fortune-tellers, palm-readers, clairvoyants, astrologists, mediums, psychics, specialists in demonology, witches and warlocks, Satanists, other occult practitioners, and more.
Project ARTICHOKE Project ARTICHOKE (also referred to as Operation ARTICHOKE) was a CIA project that researched interrogation methods and arose from Project BLUEBIRD on August 20, 1951, run by the Office of Scientific Intelligence. Science, Technology and the CIA A memorandum by Richard Helms to CIA director Allen Welsh Dulles indicated Artichoke became Project MKULTRA on April 13, 1953.Church Committee; p. 390 "MKULTRA was approved by the DCI of Central Intelligence on April 13, 1953" The project studied hypnosis, forced morphine addiction (and subsequent forced withdrawal), and the use of other chemicals, among other methods, to produce amnesia and other vulnerable states in subjects. ARTICHOKE was an offensive program of mind control that gathered together the intelligence divisions of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and FBI. In addition, the scope of the project was outlined in a memo dated January 1952 that stated, "Can we get control of an individual to the point where he will do our bidding against his will and even against fundamental laws of nature, such as self preservation?"
what years did they do this? 60s, I believe. ended 1973, supposedly, but, I don't think so.

MKDELTA: This was apparently the first project established by the CIA in October, 1952, for the use of biochemicals in clandestine operations. It may never have been implemented operationally.
MKULTRA: This was a successor project to MKDELTA established in April, 1953, and terminating some time int the late 1960's probably after 1966. This progam considered various means of controlling human behavior. Drugs were only one aspect of this activity. MKNAOMI: This project began in the 1950's and was terminated at least with respect biological projects, in 1969. This may have been a successor to MKDELTA. Its purpose was to stockpile severly incapacitating and lethal materials, and to defvelop gadgetry for the dissemination of these materials.
MKSEARCH: This was apparently a successor project to MKULTRA, which began in 1965 and was terminated in 1973. The objective of the project was to develop a capability to manipulate human behavior in a predictable manner through the use of drugs.
MKCHICKWIT: This was apparantly a part of the MKSEARCH program. ITs objective was to identify new drug developments in Europe and Asia and to obtain information and samples.
MKOFTEN: This was also apparently a part of the MKSEARCH project. Its objective was to test the behavioral and toxicological effects of certain drugs on animals and humans.
II. ARMY PROGRAMS
It appears from the available documents that the Army was involved in one aspect of the CIA project designated as MKCHICKWIT and two aspects of a counterpart project designated MKOFTEN. The document search is described in section A below, and eachof the Army programs is describe in section B below.
(The report continues for over 100 pages, you will have to look it up yourself but it does feature original testimony by the people involved as well as revealing original documents. It is these documents that were the source of Marks book "In Search of the Manchurian Candidate")
CONTRARY TO WHAT MANY PEOPLE CONCLUDED, THIS TYPE OF RESEARCH DID NOT STOP IN THE 1970'S NOR HAS IT STOPPED TODAY. FOR AN UPDATE ON WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY READ CONSTANTINE'S "PSYCHIC DICTATORSHIP OF THE USA".

Issues include suppression of direct mystical experience (pharmacratic inquisition), sexuality, and self-determination. The counterculture failed to realize that in adopting the ‘spiritual’ drug, they were inadvertently “sleeping with the enemy”, the CIA. The therapeutic promise of the drug was lost on the conservative government. However, it still gave rise to the Human Potential movement and mind spas like Esalen, which also had a root in CIA experiments in extraordinary human potential, parapsychology, and creativity. As with many panaceas, the substance is both a cure is a poison – a dream to some, a nightmare to others.
Their favorite stepchild was LSD, developed at Sandoz Laboratories in Switzerland. but later manufactured for the government by Eli Lilly. in 1953, the CIA asked Eli Lilly to make them up a batch of LSD, Eli Lilly synthesizes LSD at the CIA's behest. 1955 –
Aldous Huxley's first LSD trip; the publication of Huxley's Heaven and Hell . Eli Lilly has been featured as one of the most unethical of all drug companies by the Wall Street ... and, years ago, promoted their product, LSD, heavily. . Lysergic acid diethylamide Eli Lilly holds a US Patent for Lysergic Acid Amides, Serial No. 473,443, issued February 28, 1956.
There is one Eli Lilly piece of history so bizarre that if told to many psychiatrists, one just might get diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic and medicated with Zyrprexa. Former State Department officer John Marks in The Search for the “Manchurian Candidate”: The CIA and Mind Control, The Secret History of the Behavioral Sciences (1979)—along with the Washington Post (1985) and the New York Times (1988)—reported an amazing story about the CIA and psychiatry. A lead player was psychiatrist D. Ewen Cameron, president of the American Psychiatric Association in 1953. Cameron was curious to discover more powerful ways to break down patient resistance. Using electroshock, LSD, and sensory deprivation, he was able to produce severe delirium. Patients often lost their sense of identity, forgetting their own names and even how to eat. The CIA, eager to learn more about Cameron’s brainwashing techniques, funded him under a project code-named MKULTRA. According to Marks, Cameron was part of a small army of the CIA’s LSD-experimenting psychiatrists. Where did the CIA get its LSD? Marks reports that the CIA had been previously supplied by the Swiss pharmaceutical corporation Sandoz, but was uncomfortable relying on a foreign company and so, in 1953, the CIA asked Eli Lilly to make them up a batch of LSD, which Lilly subsequently donated to the CIA. zmagsite.zmag.org/May2004/levinepr0504.html

"The buckyball is a new form of carbon, previously undiscovered until the early 1980's. Before this exhilarating discovery, there were only two known forms of "pure" carbon to be found on Earth. The first is graphite, the slippery, soft, metallic-grey material used in pencils. Contrasted radically to graphite is the second form of pure carbon: diamond, practically the antithesis of graphite, it's an incredibly rigid crystal.
Yet both graphite and diamond are made up of pure carbon. Also made with pure carbon is the buckyball, consisting of a practically inconceivable 60 carbon atoms, all linked together to form a hollow, spherical ball.
The 60 carbon atoms form what is called a truncated icosahedron, which literally looks like a soccer ball. It consists of 12 regular pentagons and 20 regular hexagons. The C60 molecule does not bond readily to other atoms or molecules, as all bonds are to another carbon atom.
The buckyball is the only molecule of a single atom to form a hollow spheroid, and it spins at over one hundred million times per second. According to John R.D. Copley, physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, "there are 174 ways that [the buckyball] can vibrate."
One of the principal researchers of the buckyball is Richard E. Smalley, professor of physics and chemistry at Rice University, Houston. Smalley asserts that it is the largest possible symmetric molecule, saying:
Sixty is the largest number of proper rotations in the icosahedral group. That, in turn, is the largest point group-the largest group where symmetry operations, rotations, reflections, etc. leave one point unmoved. This makes C-60 the most symmetric possible molecule.
The buckyball, being the roundest of round molecules, is also quite resistant to high speed collisions. In fact, the buckyball can withstand slamming into a stainless steel plate at 15,000 mph, merely bouncing back, unharmed. When compressed to 70 percent of its original size, the buckyball becomes more than twice as hard as its cousin, diamond.
The discovery of the buckyball can be likened to the discovery of benzene in 1825. Benzene is made up of a six carbon ring along with six hydrogen atoms (C6H6). Benzene revolutionized chemistry, and is the father of innumerable compounds, many of which formed the basis of many everyday products. Some of these products include plastics, aspirin, paints, and even nasal decongestants. What benzene did in the past, scientists hope to repeat with the buckyball today. Scientists even anticipate greater breakthroughs with the buckyball since it is ten times larger than benzene. Smalley shows his perspective and excitement by stating, "This isn't 1825. It's like discovering benzene, only now you have all the techniques and the scientific instruments of the 1990's. available."
Smalley is credited with the discovery of the buckyball, along with his Rice University associates Robert Curl, Jim Heath, and Sean O'Brien. Harry Kroto, of the University of Sussex in England, also contributed greatly to Smalley et al. The discovery of the buckyball is an inspiring story of perseverance and dogged determination, reminiscent of the "golden age" of discovery, fraught with dead ends and false leads. It is a classic story in every sense of the word, bridging the gap between two continents and over five years of arduous, involved research.
Research on the buckyball continues through this day, due to the buckyball's extremely mutable nature. "Depending on the compound, the [buckyball] can serve as a conductor, insulator, semiconductor, or superconductor," says Smalley.
Perhaps the most exciting characteristic of the buckyball is that it is hollow on the inside, and Smalley insists that all elements in the periodic table will fit inside. This could create any number of practical uses, the most notable being in the field of medicine. Drugs could be administered molecularly, or more importantly, individual radioactive molecules could be contained within the buckyball for specific treatment of cancer, compared to chemotherapy, which bombards the patient with low level (yet relatively large quantities of) radiation.
A fuzzyball is created by adding single atoms to the outside of the buckyball. One example predicted would be the fully hydrogenated buckyball, C60H60. This would cause the buckyball to take on a fuzzy appearance, hence the name. There are many applications to fuzzyballs, one of which could create a slicker substance than teflon. A fully fluorinated buckyball would create the slickest molecular lubricant known to man, C60F60. The uses for a molecular lubricant are boundless, limited only by our imagination.
It seems that our imagination is the only limiting factor in the buckyball research. A pure buckyball is an insulator while the buckyball becomes a superconductor with the addition of a few atoms, including potassium.
However, if too many potassium atoms are added to a single buckyball, it will become insulating instead of superconducting. Three potassium atoms create the best conditions for superconductivity. K3C60 is a stable metallic crystal with a face-centered cubic form of buckyballs, with potassium ions filling the gaps between buckyballs.
This potassium buckide is the first molecular metal that is totally three-dimensional. Therefore, metallic buckides could be produced as a totally free superconductor, not linear, but in all three dimensions.

Abstract The carbon are soot from a fullerene generator was exhaustively extracted with toluene, pyridine, toluene then pyridine, benzene and carbon disulphide. Complete extraction of C60 and C70 was not fully achieved with any solvent since the residue was shown to contain occluded C60 and C70. Fourier transform infrared, solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance and threshold laser desorption Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometric experiments were used to show the presence of C60 and C70 in the exhaustively extracted residues. Low-power laser irradiation also indicated the presence of higher fullerenes in the extracted are soot. Laser ablation of the extracted arc soot gave FT ion cyclotron resonance mass spectra which showed regions with odd-numbered carbon clusters. It is suggested that the smaller fullerenes and possibly the odd-numbered clusters may be trapped in hyperfullerenes such as the Russian egg or in buckytubes.............................

Just as the key building block to life on earth is the carbon atom, carbon is the key to one of the most promising branches of nanotechnology. Much of the current research and commercialisation of nanotechnology relies on tubes, wires and balls made from carbon atoms. All are known by a number of names. The carbon based tubes can be carbon nanotubes, buckytubes and very long tubes are often referred to as nanowires. The balls are known as fullerines or buckyballs. [/b]
History of Buckytubes and Buckyballs Russian researchers discovered carbon nanotubes in the 1950s but the research was only published in Russian and the Cold War meant this information was not widely available. In the 1980s knowledge surrounding carbon nanotubes and balls become more widespread. The balls resembled the geodesic dome shape designed by American, R. Buckminster Fuller, and the buckyball or fullerene was named in his honour. The simplest form of buckyball is the C60 Buckminsterfullerene. A shape instantly recognisable for it’s soccer ball like features. An adaptation of the method for producing buckyballs produces cylindrical buckytubes.
Figure 1. C60 variant of a buckyball Buckytubes
Buckytubes or carbon nanotubes are basically buckyballs that have not closed over to form a sphere. Carbon nanotubes can be single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) or multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) but it is SWNT that are most commonly used at this point in time. Typical carbon nanotubes are around 1nm in diameter and several hundred nanometers long – even several millimetres long.
Figure 2. A single walled carbon nanotube Making Carbon Nanotubes
Like buckyballs, carbon nanotubes are produced naturally in the soot produced by burning many chemicals and compounds. These naturally occurring carbon nanotubes are highly irregular in size and are mixed with an unacceptable amount of normal carbon soot. In order to be viable for research or commercial applications quantities of high quality uniform nanotubes are required.
Initially, researchers found that a simple addition of a small amount of vaporised nickel nanoparticles to the carbon arc or laser vaporisation methods used to produce buckyballs would produce carbon nanotubes. The carbon would dissolve into the nickel to a saturation point after which carbon would deposit on the surface of the nickel nanoparticles. From these carbon atoms grow nanotubes as the anchoring site with the nickel nanoparticle doesn’t allow for the buckyball to seal over into a sphere. Although effective in producing carbon nanotubes, these relatively expensive methods produce a low quality mix of short length SWNT and MWNTs combined with carbon soot.
Commercially viable methods for producing carbon nanotubes include high pressure carbon monoxide (HiPco), chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and a plasma enhanced process. High Pressure Carbon Monoxide (HiPco)
High Pressure Carbon Monoxide (HiPco) processing uses a flow of carbon monoxide gas and clusters of iron through a heated chamber. The iron acts as a catalyst to split the carbon monoxide into carbon and oxygen. Some of the atoms recombine to form carbon dioxide and the remaining carbon atoms bond together into a nanotube lattice.
Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD)
Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) of carbon nanotubes uses a metal catalyst coated substrate in a heated chamber. The size of the metal catalyst particles determines nanotube diameter. Two gases are introduced to the chamber; a process gas like ammonia, hydrogen or nitrogen and a hydrocarbon gas like acetylene, ethylene, methane or ethanol. At temperatures in excess of approximately 700°C the carbon atoms break from the hydrocarbon gas. Carbon atoms attach to the catalyst particles and other carbon atoms bond to it forming a nanotube.
Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition Plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition is similar to CVD but passes the hydrocarbon gas through a plasma field. The nanotubes formed grow in the direction of the electric field used to generate the plasma. Catalysts used and other details are a closely guarded secret as this method is claimed to produce a vast quantity of high quality nanotubes.
