This was posted by someone on another board about what her doctor thinks morgellons is... I found it to be one of the best theories yet. It makes alot of sense to me, which nothing I've read or even thought of myself ever made to me..
My doctor feels that the condition known as Morgellons has nothing to do with parasites.. He feels that the condition is caused by some kind of contaminating source that turns off the immune systems ability to recognize and repel contaminants on the skin. This allows an endless list of common biological contaminants that we all encounter every day, but are not normally susceptible too, to freely infest the skin and progress on into our connecting internal soft tissue organs. Parasites, fungus, molds, and so on,, that we were once immune to, are now free to contaminate us upon contact, that's why Morgellons is so complex and hard to treat.. Medications may kill off some things, but we are just reinfected by them within days from normal contact, because they have not been marked by the immune system. Microscopic parasitic insects from plant life are the worst, because once they have set-up they produce an oily residue from within the skin containing insect thermones, that attracts a laundry list of other types of insects, with parasites of there own, like Lyme ticks and so on, that only adds more to the over all condition. We can treat everything as its own condition, but until we can find out why, and fix, what is wrong with our immune systems, there is no end to it, and no way to stop re-infestations.. Morgellons is an immune failure of the skin, we share so many common symptoms, because we are exposed to most of the same common contaminates. All the organisms we have with Morgellons, result from our skins immune system failure.. At least that's what my doctor thinks..
Doesn't that make a whole lot of sense? It sure does to me.
